So, Chris started a new thing this year called A Year Off. Basically, she's taking a year off from shopping for things they don't need. Of course need is very subjective. The plan is to not clutter up her house with so much unnecessary junk. We are kind of doing this - only our goal isn't so much the unnecessary junk as it is the money saved by not buying the unnecessary junk.
We're are trying to be more aware of the decisions that we make when it comes to spending our money. We've discovered how much extra money we were spending and couldn't even identify what we were spending it on. Because you know what, it sucks to look at your credit card bill at the end of the month and see over $300 worth of charges to Wal-Mart/Target and have no clue what you bought.
We're not quite being at dedicated to this as Chris is. We (I) bought Red some unnecessary junk for Easter.
The basket contained: a bunny ears headband ($1), 8 pencils (they were 8 for $1), a tube of lip gloss (88 cents), a small bottle of nail polish (88 cents), a coloring book ($1), a reading book ($2.99), a mini egg shaped highlighter (50 cents), a snap together pencil (50 cents), a packet of Banana Pepper seeds ($1), a Cadbury Creme Egg (39 cents) and a Reeses egg (39 cents). For a grand total of $10.53. There are some things I should've done differently - for example she doesn't not need a highlighter and just wants to use it as a marker. The pencils were 8 for $1, but really each pencil was 12.5 cents, there was no need to buy 8 of them. And truly she would've preferred another lip gloss and nail polish rather than any of the pencils or the coloring book.

I was so broke, and lazy, this year that instead of the Bunny, "Financial Fred" brought em each a $10 bill, and a scratch-off lottery ticket. Oh well, mine are 12 and 16, time for the Bunny's timely demise, dontcha think?
